Adaptive Firearms Institute (AFI) was founded on one simple truth:
survival favors those who adapt.
We’re not just a firearms training company — we are a performance-driven,
problem-solving institute. At AFI, we teach the fighting application of
firearms through a scientific, honest, and constantly evolving approach.
Every drill, every rep, and every course is designed around how the human
body truly performs, using principles rooted in kinesiology, biomechanics,
and neuroscience.
We challenge outdated methods, reject dogma, and build everything we teach
on evidence, efficiency, and adaptability. Our goal is simple: make you more
capable, more confident, and more prepared to win when it matters most.
Training That Evolves With You
AFI makes high-performance training accessible and realistic. We understand
that long, multi-day courses aren’t always practical, so we offer efficient,
high-round-count 1-day classes focused on weapon manipulation, real-world
problem solving, and repeatable performance.
We don’t believe in artificial stress. The kind of pressure you’ll face in
a real gunfight can’t be recreated, and trying to fake it often does more
harm than good. Instead, we train in a serious but relaxed environment where
high standards, peer competition, and realistic scenario-based shooting
naturally push students to perform. That’s how we build skills that hold up
when it matters most — through structure and real-world context, not chaos.
Our 8-acre training campus features:

• Purpose-built defensive driving track
• “The Playground” — vehicles, structures, and complex live-fire scenarios

AFI Is Expanding to Tennessee
Adaptive Firearms Institute is expanding to
Shelbyville, Tennessee,
bringing AFI training to the
Nashville and Middle Tennessee
region.
Our future Tennessee location at
Firebrand Ranch
will give AFI access to approximately 250 acres of private property,
dedicated firearms training areas, long-range shooting, on-property
accommodations and the ability to offer an entirely new destination
training experience.
Tennessee courses are currently in development, with training dates
and registration information coming soon.

Instructors Who Can Teach — Not Just Shoot
Great instructors don’t just pass on what they were taught. They teach what
works now. At Adaptive Firearms Institute, we don’t recycle outdated doctrine
or regurgitate the status quo. We evolve it. Every technique is grounded in
biomechanics, neuroscience, and real-world testing, much of it developed
in-house, to reflect how the body truly performs under real-world conditions.
AFI is not built around a single résumé or a celebrity-instructor model. AFI’s founder and lead instructor brings both military and law enforcement experience and is personally present at every course, providing consistency in curriculum, standards, safety, and instructional philosophy. Depending on the course and training objectives, he is joined by carefully selected instructors whose professional experience directly supports the material being taught.
The AFI cadre includes current and former professionals from throughout the
U.S. special operations and intelligence communities, with backgrounds
spanning JSOC and national mission units, Naval Special Warfare, Army Special
Operations, Air Force Special Warfare, and local and federal law enforcement.
Our cadre also includes accomplished competitive shooters and highly
experienced civilian firearms instructors.
Their combined experience includes combat deployments, hundreds of
direct-action missions, high-threat protective operations, real-world law
enforcement, emergency medicine, professional agency-level training, and
high-level competitive shooting.
Many members of our cadre remain actively employed by government agencies
or serve in sensitive professional roles. For that reason, AFI does not
publish full names, photographs, or detailed personal histories for every
instructor. Their privacy and operational security are respected, but their
experience and ability to teach are carefully vetted.
Operational experience alone does not make someone a great instructor.
Every member of the AFI cadre is selected for the ability to communicate,
adapt, solve problems, and help students perform at a higher level without
ego. We bring the right instructors for the mission, the course, and the
students in front of us.
